It all began in the most unexpected way—throwing little balls of leftover duct tape at each other during work. What started as playful banter turned into something much more. On June 21, 2013, we decided to take a leap and go on our very first date at a new restaurant. The food was far from great, and we didn’t enjoy it at all—but that night became one of our favorite memories. We laughed through the awkwardness, turning what could have been a nerve-wracking moment into something unforgettable. Ironically, that restaurant closed down six months later, and honestly, we weren’t surprised.
But that didn’t stop us. Instead, it sparked a tradition—trying new restaurants every other week and rating them together. It’s funny to think that what we started back then is now a trend people share on TikTok. After dinner, we’d always catch a movie, not because of the plot, but because we simply wanted more time together. Every moment mattered.
A year later, on June 21, 2014, he made it official—we were boyfriend and girlfriend. From there, life kept unfolding beautifully. A few months later, we planned a trip to Chicago with the girls. At first, they were the quietest bunch I’d ever met (which turned out to be an act!), but soon we broke the silence and shared laughter. We even visited the Rainforest Café for the first time—a quirky, dark, and loud place that somehow became a family staple for a while.
Becoming part of a family that had already begun was a blessing beyond words. Watching the girls grow from my “broke best friends” into the incredible young women they are today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Now, as I step into the role of their official stepmom, my heart is full. I’m excited to continue this journey with them, creating memories, sharing laughter, and navigating life together.
